Make a Difference – Volunteer with Citizens Advice

Volunteering with your local Citizens Advice charity is a rewarding way to directly help people in your community.

Every year, Citizens Advice volunteers see thousands of people across Devon who need help overcoming issues such as benefits claims, debt, housing, employment, consumer complaints, relationship breakdowns and many others.

Our volunteer advisers talk through a person’s problems and work with them to find the options to solve or improve their issue. Advisers work together as a team under friendly and professional supervision and tell us they get huge satisfaction helping people.

The great thing about being a volunteer adviser is you don’t need any prior experience as we provide full training and you always have the backing of a professional team. We welcome applications from all members of society – there’s no age limit – and we particularly welcome people from minority groups and those with disabilities.

And if advising isn’t for you we also have a wide range of other volunteer roles, such as receptionists, office administrators, researchers, campaigners, trustees and fundraisers.

What Our Volunteers Say:

Robert S, who volunteers in Totnes, says:

“Helping others in their time of need is very rewarding.

“We often see people coming in at the end of their tether but go out of the door with a huge sense of relief.

“It’s also great working as part of a team – you’re never left on your own to cope with issues and you can always rely on professional support from your supervisor and fellow volunteers.

“Since joining Citizens Advice, I’ve learnt new skills, met new friends and feel like I’ve made a real difference to someone’s life, no matter how small the issue.”
